Copy, export or import a trip

Choose the option that fits your purpose. A new holiday based on an old plan is different from restoring a backup.

Copy a trip for another holiday

An eligible Owner can choose Edit trip → ⋯ → Copy trip. The copy keeps plans, dates, estimates and independent attachments, but clears booking details and payments. Journal entries are not copied.

You become the copy's sole Owner. Other retained members become Viewers; the original trip is unchanged. Packing progress is retained, so reset it if you want to start unpacked.

The new active trip counts towards your licence allowance. Archived trips must be restored before they can be copied.

Export planning data

Owners can use Edit trip → ⋯ → Export for a trip backup. Export also remains in reading-view menus:

  • JSON contains readable planning and financial data, including saved research notes. It omits attachments.
  • CSV ZIP includes the planning tables and supported attachments. Keep the bundle together.

Exports do not recreate traveller accounts or access, and omit the journal and custom cover photos. Notes, addresses and document contents can still contain personal information, so review files before sharing them.

Import or restore

Choose Import trip from the trips list. Upload a supported file and review the preview, dates, counts and warnings. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

Where offered, Create a copy keeps the existing trip separate. Replace permanently replaces the existing trip with the file's contents; there is no automatic merge. Review the warning carefully, especially for attachments and journal entries missing from the file.

An import adds only you as Owner. Replacing a trip removes its other members' access, so you will need to add them again. Licence allowances apply to new active trips.

If the preview expires or the trip changes before saving, upload again or review the current trip rather than repeatedly resubmitting an old preview.

Put plans in your calendar

The Export page also offers a calendar download with dates and item types. Viewers can use the calendar controls without receiving financial or whole-trip backup access.

A downloaded calendar is a snapshot, not a live subscription. Undated plans and journeys without complete times may be omitted. Broad periods become calendar blocks; check timezones in your calendar app.

Open the trip's ⋯ menu and choose Print itinerary. Select a date range or leave it blank for the whole trip. Print opens an A4 PDF in a new tab using your current choices; print or save it from your PDF viewer. Update preview refreshes the on-screen preview but is not required before Print.

For family and friends, choose Family and friends summary under Print format. It lists each segment, its From/To dates and where you are staying. Multiple stays include their own dates where needed. Activities, notes, prices, booking references and traveller contact details are excluded. Leave Google Maps QR codes checked to include accommodation location codes, or uncheck it for a text-only summary. Codes use a saved Google place or address/location; accommodation without a saved location has no code. A filtered summary includes stays overlapping the selected dates, even when check-in was earlier.

To include accommodation contact details, enter Address and Phone number below the website field in Add/Edit accommodation. Use your booking confirmation or the property's website, and include the phone country code. Then select Accommodation address and phone in the print options. These details print as ordinary text, so a QR code is not needed to read them. This option starts off and is also available to Viewers. No Google contact lookup is made.

Prices, booking references and traveller contacts start off and are available only to authorized editors. Display notes default on for editors; Research notes, financial notes and payment history never print. The trip overview map and place QR codes start on; daily maps are optional. QR codes can be scanned on paper or clicked in the preview/PDF; there are no repeated “Open in Google Maps” text labels.

Restoration is required before exporting, printing or copying an archived trip.
